Blocks of Therapy

Intensive therapy input where parents or those around the child are coached into understanding strategies used and when / how to apply them have been shown to be the most effective form of therapy.  We are flexible in our blocks of therapy to best meet you and your child’s needs. We can offer:

  • Intensive blocks of therapy (e.g. 2-3 times a week over 4-6 weeks);

  • Ongoing weekly or twice weekly therapy;

  • One off consultation and advice with Skype follow up;

  • Bespoke treatment packages to meet your needs.

At the end of each treatment block you will be given a targeted home program based on you and/or your child’s concerns and goals. The home programme will include activities that you have practised in sessions and that fit into your daily life and will include photographs of you and your child carrying out recommended activities.

As well as carrying out treatment we can also advise about orthoses or equipment and set up assessment appointments with equipment companies.

Structure of Sessions

We use the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) as part of our initial assessment to establish family centred goals. We review these along with SMART or GAS goals that are set collaboratively with children and their families for progress to be reviewed at the end of each treatment block or annually for families we see on an ongoing basis.

Each session is based on the goals that we set together with you and/or your child. Recent research shows that babies and children learn through carrying out goal directed movements independently (Morgan, et al. 2015) and that for optimum learning movement should take place within specific tasks and activities. Our therapy takes place in a meaningful and activity based context that is tailored to each individual and their family. Babies and young children come to learn the functional activities they / their families have identified by playing; older children and young adults learn in the context of enjoyable or meaningful activities such as listening to music or playing games.

Costs

Initial assessment (1 — 1.5 hours): £100 — £150 (includes a short assessment report)

Follow up sessions (45 minutes): £75

A targeted home programme is included as part of therapy block or annually for families who attend more regularly.

We understand the cost implications for families of children with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions and work hard to keep our overheads at a minimum so we can keep our treatment prices as affordable as possible. For families who are claiming benefits we will consider offering a reduced rate for a short treatment block. We will need to see proof of benefits. Please contact us to discuss.

Home visits to local areas can be considered on request.

Case Managers

We work closely with case managers to provide specialist physiotherapy, reports and home programmes and to advise or assessment for equipment / orthotics.

Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

“Evi has been instrumental in my daughter’s recovery, from the age of two when she was left with cerebral palsy following an operation, and continues today. Over the years Evi has treated Imogen using the Bobath technique - combined with the art of her healing hands and her wealth of experience - building trust and confidence, constantly monitoring and correcting movements and posture, so that from nothing Imogen has learnt to recover much of her balance and improve her mobility. Evi has made what seemed impossible possible. She has been the reason we have made the journey each week (sometimes more than once a week) - across London - to benefit from her wonderful knowledge and expertise. We know we are not alone in seeking out the treatment offered by Evi and it has been so encouraging to see other children and young adults improve and develop” (parent).
